Dietary Counseling

Dietary Counseling For Pets

Nutritional recommendations for pets are not the same across the board. That is why at Southwest Veterinary Hospital in Littleton, CO, our veterinarians encourage you to bring your pet in for an examination so that we can offer dietary counseling specific to your pet’s needs.

It is easy to just pick up anything on display at a store or share what you are eating with the pet, but it is important to note that you may be harming them.

Our veterinarians Dr. Sara Mark and Dr. Jennifer Adams have years of experience handling pets with a myriad of conditions, so they know the intricacies of pet wellness and how it is determined by proper nutrition.

Deciding What To Feed Your Pets

Trying to decide what to purchase from the vast number of items on the shelf in the pet section of the store can be overwhelming or even confusing. So many different brands and all types of food with each one telling you theirs is the best, and meanwhile you just pick one randomly.

You might be on a diet and believe the same thing you are eating might be ideal for your pet, but please do not feed your low carb diet food to the pet without consulting us first. What is good for you can prove detrimental to your pet, such as the sugar substitute xylitol, which can damage your pet’s liver.

At Southwest Veterinary Hospital, we can assist you with considering the choices available for your pets and find a dog or cat nutrition that will satisfy your maturing pet’s distinct nutritive requirements.

In fact, we have made the process much easier for you by carrying some ideal pet foods and supplements in our online store. Our hospital takes pet nutrition as seriously as we take ours, and only supply nutritionally balanced brands in our facility, such as Hill's Prescription Diets, Purina Clinical Nutrition, and Royal Canin foods.

The size of your pet, age, and breed are factors we take into consideration when deciding on their diet. If your pet is overweight, we work to help get your pet to a healthy weight level.

We can give you feeding suggestions that will stimulate your pet’s utmost growth capacity without inducing developmental issues.
